Welcome To The New Not-Normal

My mother has a lot of catchphrases. But one that I heard over and over again throughout my childhood has been echoing through my mind a lot lately:

Normal was never the goal.

Leslie and I always agree. I love you, Leslie.

I'm a goal-oriented person. Lately, I feel like I've been falling flat on a lot of my goals. Especially when it comes to writing. So I decided to see if this doman was available (it was, for twelve American dollars; thanks, Google Overlords). I'm using it as motivation. As a re-framing device. As a reminder.

Normal was never the goal.

Never a problem.

Life isn't going to look the way I expect it will. And maybe my other goals won't be reached in normal, traditional ways. And above all, rather than strive for normal, I need to strive for authentic. Be who I am, write what I write, and not try to conform to the norm.

So here's what I'm planning to do with this site, for now:

  1. Write whatever is on my mind, especially since my low-social-media diet (which has been excellent for my soul, overall) means I have no outlet for the public rants and raves I so love to periodically shout into the void.
  2. Publish at least two posts a week, potentially with this loose structure: Midweek Musings, AKA, Whatever-Goes Wednesdays: All Things Not Normal Welcome Here; and then, on Fridays... Flash Fiction Fridays.*
And then maybe I'll see if anyone else wants to contribute their abnormal anecdotes on this site.

So that's what I'm thinking. We'll see how it goes.

Welcome to the new not-normal.

*Yep, that's right... I'll be breaking one of today's sacred writing rules for Real Authors, and offering up regularly-scheduled creative content for free. For now, anyway.
